Banque de Luxembourg: 100 years of history and expertise!
In 2020 Banque de Luxembourg is celebrating its centenary. The Bank's history is closely linked to that of the country’s financial centre and it has played a key role in contributing to its development. To mark its 100th anniversary, the Bank has created a website that explores the origins of the Bank and how they are shaping its vision for the future.
A century of expertise
This is a milestone year for Banque de Luxembourg, which is celebrating a century of expertise. In 1920 its forerunner, Banque d’Alsace et de Lorraine (BAL), opened its first branch in Luxembourg City. One hundred years later, Banque de Luxembourg is one of the leading private banks in Luxembourg and Europe.
Pierre Ahlborn, Administrateur Délégué, explains: “We are exploring our origins to help build our vision of the future. From the Great Depression of the 1930s to World War II through oil and financial crises, we have embraced every challenge as a way to move forward, showing exceptional resilience during difficult times. One hundred years of experience have taught us to view each crisis as an opportunity to learn and adapt. As we celebrate our centenary, we naturally want to thank our clients, our employees and the people of Luxembourg and talk to them about the challenges of tomorrow.”
One hundred years of trust. Thank you to our clients.
One hundred years of commitment. Thank you to our employees.
One hundred years of history. Thank you to our home country.

Podcasts
Résonance is a series of podcasts (in French) in which Banque de Luxembourg reviews the defining events of the last century. The podcasts provide an audio account of historic milestones and go back in time to understand exactly how the landmark events of the past inevitably echo the major challenges of the future.
